Martinstown: Playground Painting
20th September 2025
The PTA have been busy improving the playground in Martinstown at the start of a new school year. Following the success of last year’s painting in Cargan, the team moved on to Martinstown.
Our parent and staff volunteers painted outdoor furniture and a shed in the playground. Work also took place on preparing and painting large wooden reels which will be used as playground tables, on both sites. The playground tables will encourage small world play and board games, which are very popular at lunchtime.
This year we also tried something new, with murals painted on two mobile classrooms. Our vision was not only to brighten up the playground but also to encourage our pupils to be creative, with alternative designs to inspire their imagination.
Our sincere thanks to Laura Lok, the students at St. Patrick’s College (Ballymena) and their teacher Kieran Slack for their work on the murals.
We our moving to a new school build (updates will be provided later this term). However, while we are here, we will ensure the children have the best possible environment in which to play and learn.
None of this would be possible without our volunteers: parents, staff, community and PTA members. Our thanks to the parents and McKinstry Biomass who donated large reels. Thanks also to Rory Fyfe (Art Engineering) and our caretaker (Steve) for their work in preparing the reels for painting. We would also like to thank Damien O'Hagan (decorator), as well as Spar and Donnellys for their support. The PTA plays such an important part in improving our school and we would like to extend a warm welcome to new members this year.
