World Maths Day 2025
28th March 2025
MQP celebrated World Maths Day with a costume day to promote mathematics as a fun part of the school curriculum. We want the children to have positive attitudes towards maths and a bit of fun and dressing up helps. Thank you to our parents for their support with costumes for World Maths Day.
Every year group focused on different aspects of mathematics, including the use of our new scheme – Mathematics Mastery.
Primary 1
It was a first World Maths Day for Primary 1, with plenty of excitement about costumes. Maths is always practical, active and fun in Primary 1 - so no difference today!. Primary 1 also know a lot about money, with the Trócaire Change Collection, and you never know who you would bump into in Martinstown. World Maths Day in Primary 1 finished with a number hut.
Primary 2
In Primary 2 the children admired their friends' super outfits! The class had so much fun: going outside on a Maths Hunt, watching a magical Maths trick, learning all about mass and at the end of the day everyone tried to find Wally behind all of the numbers.
Primary 3
Mrs McLoughlin’s class were very creative with their World Maths Day costumes. They enjoyed lots of different maths games, including: bingo, snakes and ladders, pairing the number bonds and a rolling in treasure money game. Primary 3 also came to the realisation that "Maths actually is fun!’’
Mrs McKeown’s class enjoyed the Maths Mastery programme and also completed a maths carousel which included: games, jigsaws, shape bingo, fractions, time and money. Primary 3 finished off with a fun maths quiz to test the pupils’ mathematical knowledge. A good day was had by all.
Primary 4
Mrs Sharkey’s class had a busy World Maths Day. Everyone got their own special number as a 'new name' and then used this to play some games. Primary 4 also learnt some new games to help practise number facts and have fun!
Mrs O’Mullan’s class participated in an online World Maths Quiz and talked about Maths in the world: in sport, baking, building, farming, cooking, science, art and architecture. The pupils followed this up by looking at patterns in the environment and tessellations. Primary 4 then created their own tessellation patterns.
Primary 5
What a fantastic day in Primary 5 celebrating World Maths Day! The children wore some incredibly creative outfits that showcased their love for maths. The class delved into fascinating maths facts and explored how maths is a universal language, used by everyone in their daily lives. To add a bit of fun, Primary 5 headed outside for some PE, incorporating estimating and time skills, while having a blast! The day was wrapped up with a thrilling 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?' quiz. It was an amazing way to show that maths can be exciting and relevant to us all!
Primary 6
Miss Walsh’s class took part in mathematical investigations, a Maths Emoji Scavenger Hunt, as well as problem solving with Izak9 cubes. A day of practical maths investigations, with the emphasis on fun. Well done everyone.
Mrs McAlister’s class celebrated World Maths Day with a number scavenger hunt. Primary 6 had great fun looking for the emojis and then working out the calculations that came with them.
Primary 7
Primary 7 had an action-packed World Maths Day that started with a hotly contested Hit the Button tournament. The maths carousel had Primary 7 problem solving with Tangrams, magic triangles, lollipop stick puzzles, creating pictures with coordinates and rolling for money in The Money Game. The day was rounded off with a 1% Maths Club, which is always a hit with the Primary 7.
