Primary 5 Shared Education Day in Cushendall
19th February 2026
Primary 5 joined their friends from Camphill PS for a fabulous trip to Cushendall. We met up in the Boat Club where we were warmly received by Ciaran O'Reilly who introduced us to the activities that the Boat Club provide and we enjoyed his PowerPoint slides and videos all about sailing.
We split in to our groups and off we went to explore Red Bay Boats and the RNLI, led by our very own Christine's son, Conor.
At the RNLI, the children learned about water safety, the importance of staying together, how to float and the how to call the coastguard in an emergency. We had great fun trying on some of the equipment and gear used by the lifeboat crew.
Red Bay Boats gave us a great talk on the progression of their company from wooden fishing boats to lavish, modern speedboats. Stephen and Conor from Red Bay Boats invited us into their workshop and we got the opportunity to see the men at work, constructing parts of new boats. We hope to see the boats out on the water around Cushendall very soon.
We also had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery and landscapes of Cushendall on a lovely walk across the beach, topped with a trip to the play park. It is safe to say we had all worked up an appetite at this stage and enjoyed our lunch at the Boat Club with our friends.
Special thanks to Red Bay Boats, Conor and the RNLI volunteers and Ciaran O'Reilly and the Boat Club for his hospitality.
Enjoy the photos!
