Maths Week
21st October 2016
Maths Week was a fantastic success as the whole school focused on mathematics activities in the curriculum.
Mrs McConway (Maths Co-ordinator) arranged a huge variety of maths activities to promote mathematics. At the start of the week she was in Cargan with the Y1 & 2 pupils and staff to encourage active, practical, problem-solving mathematics. We want the children to enjoy maths as well as seeing how important it is in our lives.
Throughout the week the emphasis was on encouraging the pupils to view mathematics as fun. The Y3-5 classes played bingo in the Parish Hall, while Y6 & 7 had a maths table quiz. At the same time we also wanted the pupils to see how important mathematics is in the world. The children studied the contributions that famous mathematicians have made to Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). We want our children to have high aspirations for their future careers.
It is important too that parents know what the children are doing in their maths curriculum. Our website and November’s Newsletter will help keep you updated on mathematics, which is our School Development Plan (SDP) priority for this year. Our family homework competition results will be announced on Monday, look out for updates.
