World Book Day in MQP

2nd March 2023

World Book Day has come around again and we sure had some fun.

Foundation Stage were real bookworms. Primary 1s read stories, completed book reviews and designed book marks. Primary 2s met virtually with their friends in Camphill Primary School and listened to the story 'What the Ladybird Heard'. Afterwards, the children got creative and made the ladybird from their story.

The reading bug bit in Key Stage 1 with Primary 3s drawing with Rob. They used his help to draw a hedgehog character. They then brought this character to life by giving him a name, age, address and writing about his likes and dislikes. Primary 4 used Newsdesk to delve into different books and vote on their favourite. They completed their day by designing a book cover and drawing up character profiles.

Key Stage 2 were also busy. Primary 5 gave presentations of the books they enjoyed and drew up an alphabet of words associated with books. Our Primary 6s challenged each other in a World Book Day quiz and then created a new character for their class. Meanwhile, Primary 7s also battled it out in the quiz and focused on maths as part of World Book Day. The P7 pupils estimated the number of words in their AR reading books and checked their estimates by going online and finding out exactly how many words there were in each AR book.

A busy day indeed, filled with a great variety of activities.

Our motto now is, 'treat your shelf and keep reading'
