Visit of GAA President
10th November 2016
We had the great honour of welcoming GAA President Aogán Ó Fearghail to Mary Queen of Peace Primary School.
The president was greeted by thirty two children waving flags, from each of the counties in Ireland. The Y7 School Councillors then took Aógan on a tour of the school where he saw Gaelic games been played in our playground. The president is also a primary school principal and he we was interested in what the children were learning and our plans for a new school building.
He was then entertained by Y3-5 Irish dancers. The children are members of the Nine Glens’ School of Irish Dance and have just returned from a hugely successful Ulster championship. Next up was a question and answer session. Sixteen pupils won a school competition to ask the president their topical GAA question.
The president had to cancel his visit initially due to family circumstances and we very much appreciate the fact that Aógan stayed overnight in the area so that he could get to the see the children on the Friday.
Our thanks too to Con Magees GAC who organised the visit and their gift for every single child in Mary Queen of Peace PS.
Enjoy the photos.
