13th June 2025

Today, our Primary 5 class had an absolutely brilliant day visiting CAFRE Greenmount as part of the Bank of Ireland Open Farm Weekend. The theme of our current topic is “Farming,” and what better way to explore it than by experiencing it first-hand?

The children were eager to learn, and their enthusiasm was evident as they engaged with the various activities throughout the visit. We had the incredible opportunity to see some impressive tractors, which certainly held their interest- especially when they heard the price! The highlight of the day, however, was watching a sheep shearing demonstration. It was fascinating to see the process up close, and lots of great questions arose from that experience.

Of course, we couldn’t leave without meeting the Dale Farm Cow, who was a real star of the day. The kids were thrilled to learn more about dairy farming and the importance of cows in the agricultural sector. Overall, it was a fantastic day filled with valuable information and loads of hands-on experiences that truly enhanced our understanding of farming life.
