Safer Internet Day 2024
6th February 2024
Safer Internet Day is the UK’s biggest celebration of online safety. Each year they cover an online issue or theme that addresses the things young people are seeing and experiencing online.
Created in consultation with young people across the UK, this year Safer Internet Day will be focusing on 'Inspiring Change'. This includes covering:
- Young people’s perspective on new and emerging technology
- Using the internet to make change for the better
- The changes young people want to see online
- The things that can influence and change the way young people think, feel and act online and offline
Today in MQP, the teachers provided a range of informative and engaging activities for their pupils in the hope of making them more aware of how positive actions can 'inspire' positive 'changes' in their online world.
In the Foundation Stage, the story of Digi Duck was used to highlight what things are safe and not safe to share online.
In KS1, the story 'Hatch Me' reminded the children of who their trusted adult is and how they should go to them if they find that they are worried about something that has happened online.
In KS2, one class got a real hands on experience as they explored the fast and ever changing developments in technology. Social influencers, mobile phones and AI provided great topics of discussion amongst the pupils. Primary 7 pupils also used the iMovie skills taught in Term 1 to produce a short information movie for P5 and P6 pupils, exploring some of the Top Internet Manners that we all should try to adopt in our online worlds.
Well done everyone. Let's continue to play our part in Inspiring Change in the online world.
