Primary 5 Shared Education Day
11th June 2026
Primary 5 had their final Shared Education session of the year today, with their friends from Camphill P.S. Children took part in a range of activities throughout the day.
Each group got the opportunity to play Bench Ball up in the Parish Hall and it was great to see the teamwork and togetherness in each team, with some excellent skills on show. Next, children worked in groups to design a brochure for the tourism office to encourage people to visit Cushendall. This was our Shared Space and where we had a memorable trip earlier in the year.
The highlight of the day however, was our session with Katie from The Calm Kit. Katie explained that when we fall, we have a first aid kit to help us and know exactly how to make the injury better. However, when we are anxious, frustrated or sad, we may not have the tools or knowledge of how to cope or help ourselves. Well today, we all got great ideas to create our own "Calm Kit". Katie showed us some great breathing techniques, waving and dancing with scarves to the music; activities that required high energy and pressure and even some activities that just required being present in the moment and working things out together. Each child wrote their name on a slip of paper and drew some objects on it that made them happy. We joined each link together to make a Primary 5 Happiness Chain.
The children all recognised how calm and relaxed they felt after the session and these will certainly be some activities that we will use again within the classroom. Thank you Katie and we will definitely be inviting you back to MQP again.
We had an excellent year participating in the Shared Education Programme and some children have built up really lovely friendships throughout the year.
