Irish Dancing
30th October 2016
It may be mid-term for the school but we have a team of Irish dancers from the Nine Glens’ School of Irish Dance who are representing our community at the Ulster Championships, being held this year in Dundalk. Many members of the team are pupils at MQP.
In order to qualify for the competition the boys and girls had to go through a rigorous and highly competitive qualification process, often with 80-90 dancers in each of the age groups seeking the highly sought after qualification spots.
Having reached the finals, the children have been training daily for the past eight weeks, with sessions lasting up to two hours at a time. This level of dedication and athleticism will stand by the children as they compete at this prestigious event.
The Nine Glens' School of Irish Dance can be proud of their work and it is paying off. Results to date:
Under 7s - Solo Heavy Class Champion, Couples Champions, Three Hand Champions, Top Ten finishes in solo and solo light
Under 8s - 2nd place in the couples, a top 10 finish in the individuals
Under 9s - 3rd place in the couples, 3rd in the Three Hand, two girls finishing in the individual top 10 list
Under 10s - 6th place in couples, 4th in Three Hand, 7th and a highly commended in the individuals, top ten placements in the Solo Light and Solo Heavy Classes
Congratulations to everyone involved in the Nine Glens’ School of Irish Dance: to the dancers, mentors and parents.
