Green Day
14th March 2025
We celebrated St. Patrick, Ireland's patron saint, with our annual Green Day. The children dressed in green and made a donation to Trócaire, Primary 6 also raised funds with a Bun Sale (our one Lenten treat). Thank you to the pupils and staff in Primary 6. A total of £472.90 was raised. Brilliant! well done everyone.
Each of the year groups marked the national holiday with activities in class.
Primary 1 had an action-packed day: dancing, making an instrument to use in their Green Day song; creating cards and hats; listening to a special Saint Patrick's Day story; as well as the bonus bun from Primary 6.
Primary 2 children learnt all about St. Patrick and the shamrock before starting a carousel of Green Day activities (writing, counting and art). The children finished their day with a sing song and some traditional Irish dancing.
Primary 3: Mrs McKeown’s class researched the patron saint's life before completing a St. Patrick fact file. There was, of course, a St. Patrick's Day card for everyone at home. Mrs McLoughlin's class designed a St. Patrick’s Day card with a shamrock on the front, symbolising the message of 'The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.' The children enjoyed getting active by taking part in the traditional Irish dance, The Shoemaker's Dance.
Primary 4: Mrs Sharkey's class decorated a scene from St. Patrick's life, danced the Siege of Ennis and made a Shamrock Man! Mrs O’Mullan’s class read Cú Chulainn and Gráinne Mhaol stories; sang Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears; learnt to pray the Hail Mary in Irish; and are beginning to learn the counties of Ireland.
Primary 5 had a lovely day learning about St Patrick and the importance of the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity. Then it was out into the sun to showcase the Shoe the Donkey Dance.
Primary 6 held a bun sale to raise money for Trócaire. Both classes also learnt The Waves of Tory and Shoe the Donkey, for our cultural activity.
Primary 7 were learning about Irish geography, their names in Irish, persuasive writing about reasons to come to Ireland, dancing the Waves of Tory and conversational Irish. The day finished with an Ireland and Glenravel quiz.
Enjoy St. Patrick's Day and the photos.
Remember: school closed Monday 17 March 2025.
