Anti-Bullying Week - CHOOSE RESPECT
15th November 2024
This week the children took part in Anti-Bullying Week with the theme: Choose Respect. Odd Socks Day took place on Tuesday 12 November, with all adults and children wearing odd socks to celebrate what makes us all unique. The children have engaged in a variety of activities, highlighting the importance of choosing respect.
In Primary 1, the children have been busy this week finding out that a good friend is respectful, kind with their hands and voice, is able to share and take turns and can like different things.
Primary 2 enjoyed listening to a story about ‘The Day God Made You’ and discussed how we are all different and special in our way. The children were reminded that we should always respect one another and each others’ differences. The children then completed a quiz about showing respect in school and got full marks.
Mrs McKeown’s Primary 3 children were busy this week talking about ways they respect others, themselves and the world around them. They coloured in odd socks, worked through the Powerpoint about showing respect and made the message ‘Show respect to others’.
In Cargan, Miss Fyfe’s Primary 3 children participated in an Anti-Bullying live lesson and talked about how they can show respect to others in school, at home and in the wider community. They were then able to create 'freeze frames' on how we can show respect to others and then discussed the positive approaches that they could take towards bullying.
Mrs O’Mullan Primary 4s watched the Powerpoint presentation and discussed the importance of respecting others and ourselves. The children completed their odd sock mindful colouring sheet and designed beautiful Choose Respect posters. While Mrs Sharkey’s Primary 4s talked about respectful and disrespectful behaviours and how they can make each other smile.
In Primary 5 Miss McGurk’s class began the week with a BBC live lesson. They designed their odd socks and participated in a paired activity, discussing how we show respect.
Primary 6, had important discussions about this year’s theme ‘Choose Respect’. They talked about why this is important and completed a poster on how we can show respect in different ways towards different people. The P6 children also completed an Anti-bullying comprehension, answering questions about the different types of bullying, how it can affect them and who they can talk to if it happens to them or they witness it.
Through role-play and discussion, the pupils in Primary 7 explored the different ways that respect can be seen, felt and heard in different settings and within different groups of people. The ideas came very naturally to the pupils and they all agreed that ‘CHOOSING RESPECT’ is the right choice for everyone involved.
