We are Brídíní Óga
18th January 2023
Mary Queen of Peace were delighted to welcome the Brídíní Óga team to the school to celebrate the club’s historic All-Ireland success. Management and players visited both school sites to share the excitement and positivity that is running right through our parish.
The first stop was Cargan school to meet the Primary 1 and 2 pupils (Foundation Stage). The children gathered together to sing the Brídíní Óga song:
Ole, ole, ole, ole, ole, ole
Ole, ole, ole, ole, ole, ole
We are Brídíní Óga’s army
We all went to Kinnegad
And we really shook them up when we won the All-Ireland Cup
Brídíní Óga is the best Camogie team
Ole, ole, ole, ole, ole, ole
Ole, ole, ole, ole, ole, ole
This was followed by the recital of a poem the children and the teachers composed during shared writing (a copy can be viewed in the photo gallery). The girls then had a question and answer session with the infants and if they thought winning an All-Ireland was hard, then they were soon to find out that the younger children ask some serious questions. The camogs then posed for photos with the children, including some taken in the Brídíní Óga Balloon Arch.
Next up it was a run down the road to the Parish Hall to meet the Primary 3 -7 classes, assistants, teachers and Fr. Paul. Brídíní Óga entered the hall, along the red carpet, to smiling faces and loud cheering. The MQP camogie team presented individual gifts to the management and players. Four of the Brídíní Óga team were Primary 7 pupils in the first year of the amalgamated school and we are confident that our camogie girls will graduate through the ranks to become Brídíní Óga seniors, inspired by Glenravel’s 2022 team.
After another question and answer session with the team and a loud rendition of the team song, the All-Ireland Junior Camogie Champions were presented with a framed photo of the winning team. We hope the photograph will hang proudly in the club to remind us all of a special group of girls who were born and raised in Glenravel, and then went on to conquer Antrim, Ulster and Ireland.
Fr Paul read a blessing for the team and once again the girls posed (which admittedly they are very good at😁) for more photos with the MQP pupils.
It was a pleasure to welcome Brídíní Óga to the school. To say well done and to thank the girls for everything they have done for our parish. On the night the girls won the trophy and brought it home, the team found time to share that success with the children of Glenravel. We were very moved by that gesture and our staff wanted to organise an event that would recognise the girls’ achievements and the care they have for the next generation of Glenravel’s children. Thank-you.
There are so many people to thank for today’s event and it was a real team effort, led by our Vice-Principal Mrs McNicholl, supported by Mary Swann; the teachers and assistants who organised the day; Mrs Gormley for the website; and Curly who produced a wonderful photo to capture a very special moment in time. Thanks too, to Denise who not only managed today’s events but (more importantly) helped sort the girls with notes, phone call, falls and bruises during their time in primary school.
Well done to everyone associated with camogie in Glenravel. Saturday 7th January 2023 was a long time in the making. Congratulations to all of the former players, managers and committee members who played their part in helping the girls become All-Ireland Champions. The governors, parents, staff and most importantly, the children of Mary Queen of Peace PS are so proud of our Brídíní Óga team.
It was a winter’s day in Glenravel and unfortunately many of our children were unable to travel to school today. We hope the photos and video will help you share in today’s excitement.
Enjoy the photos (more to follow), watch the video and you’ll understand why Brídíní Óga are 'The World’s Greatest💪'.
